Its Come To An End..

We've come to the end of our semester, which means we've come to the end of our class. I must say the class was not bad and interesting. I like the idea of blogging a lot because I believe everyone at one point in time blogs. It was a cool way of communicating with others while using the technology.

It was pretty easy to blog, maybe what made it hard was the fact that I know it was part of homework, had to make sure it was good enough. It's nice to write about anything you're feeling or thinking. It's pretty cool that it was part of our grade.

When writing my blogs, to be honest, I never checked for the amount I was writing. I forgot it had to be a certain length because I just wrote and once I thought it was enough I stopped. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing but...lol that's what I did. I was not keeping tabs on what I was writing or how much I was writing.

Actually writing the blogs, I will admit was hard just because I would forget sometimes that I had to write them. I would realize when it was too late but when I was writing them, it was not hard. Once you get in the zone, you just write.

I would probably keep writing later on, when I feel like I need to let things out or anything of the sort. I think blogging is a good way of just letting lose without having any regrets.

Presentations...

I honestly think everyone did a good job on their presentations. It's always interesting to learn about other religions. I was nervous about my groups presentation because I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. I thought things weren't going to go too well but I think we did pretty good.

Judaism
I loved their presentation.
I think they had good pictures to go with what they said.
There wasn't a lot of information all in one slide.
I thought it was pretty cool how they didn't use gas/fuel for Sabeth. (I wonder if we can ever do that)
I did think it was crazy how they also said that God expresses anger by nature and causes disasters.

Islam
They believe in no God but in Allah.
I thought it was pretty cool that they believe to be active they should grow trees.
There would be rewards to those who plant, which shows that they care a lot about the environment.
Animals are very important to them because they believe they should be loved and respected.
I have to agree with them on this, nature is here to help us but it shouldn't be abused.
I think it was good that this group had quotes and explained the meaning to them.

Daoism
I have to say this was my favorite presentation.
Everything was done nicely...nice pictures, setup, enough information, and nice gifts =)
The one thing that took with me was when they said that you had to let nature be itself.

Hinduism
I like how the slide was prehistoric.
They can't pollute.
Planting a tree is a religious duty.

All the religions care a lot about the environment. I wonder what would happen if we took a little from each religion and make the world better. I think if we took some of the things from other religions, the environment would be a lot better.

Crazy

Well I hadn't been to a museum in a very long time but I must say I didn't dislike it.

I enjoyed the visit and it was just crazy to read some of the things I was reading. I wrote down some of the things that most surprised me.

80% of forest gone
-Seeing that just made we realize that most of the forests are gone, just like how Al Gore said.

Islands coverage 1.7% of the earths surface.

-Even though its not a big crazy percentage, it still there and is a part of our world.

Dzanga-Sangha rainforest getting ruin, extract diamonds.

-This just reminded me of the movie "Blood Diamond."

20% of the worlds population living in wealthier, developed countries do more ecological harm then the entire remaining 80% of the earth's people.
-This really shocked me even though I knew we did damaged. It didn't really hit me BC I just kept telling myself that's impossible with all the technology we have and we are still doing so much damage.

"In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught" Baba Dioum
-I love this quote BC I find it to be very true. It has so many meanings to it but one thing is that we need to act fast.

Madagascar forest have declined. Between 1950 and 1985 half of the eastern rainforest alone was lost.****

-When I read this I knew what I wanted to do for my project. I couldn't believe it.

Cut BC they want to clear for agriculture nd settlement nd wood.
-We harm the environment in every way possible.

Each tree has its own story. With the width etc

-Everything has a story.

Our thumb is a little bit longer than a monkeys.
-Just a fun fact.

I enjoyed myself very much & figured out what to do for my project (Madagascar forest!!!)

Depends...

As I was looking through the websites to see what "dumpster diving" was, I thought to myself isn't that what homeless people do?! What comes to mind are those who pick up cans/bottles and food in the garbage.

Looking through
garbage for things that are in a good state and taking it in for our own personal enjoyment. I can understand picking up a piece of furniture that has a few things wrong/damaged. You can always fix it up and polish it. I know my parents have taken in a few things that they thought was in a good shape, most of the furniture they got just had a few roughed up sides, nothing big. A typical American seems to throw out furniture that have nothing wrong with them because they get something newer. It's all about what is "in" and cooler.

This is a piece of furniture my parents got.

They just had a few roughed up sides, very tiny.

The one thing I would not pick up from the garbage would be food. Even if it looks good, I would much rather buy my own food. I wouldn't want anything to happen to me. Furniture is okay because you're not eating it but with food you are.

Take A Moment And Think

I find it so crazy to think that our temperature is rising to an extreme. If everybody stopped for a moment and started to think about what is really going on they would not be as clam. As far as my thinking, I think that the rising of temperature is the most important thing going on. What is going on has a domino effect, if you think about it. The sea levels going up, animals stop from existing, and we as a whole stop existing.

The picture in Al Gore's book about how certain areas of how sea levels will affect our World shocked me a lot. I could not believe that something like that could happen to our World. If something like that happened there would be a lot of lives lot. An article from NASA explained that since 1993 the sea level has been rising "an average of three millimeters (0.1 inch) per year." They also stated that most of the water came from the melting of ice. These glaciers are homes for many animals also. It's a very scary thought.

Imagine being in a State where half of your population is covered with water because of the sea levels.

I think that if people tried their best to save some energy and not waste it, it would help out a lot. We leave our houses with the power on to mostly everything but they are not being used. It's just being wasted and we get charged for it. I also strongly believe that the government should do a lot to make this crisis a lot better.

I heard today in the news that the Mayor of NYC Michael Bloomberg wants all the NYC Taxis to be Hybrid by 2012. I think it's a great idea. There are tons of taxis in NYC and if they are all Eco-friendly, it will help with pollution and everything.

We all need that extra push to make things happen. If the government starts to really notice what is going on and makes it a must to have hybrid cars, the crisis would be a little better. Fixing the form of transportation would do a lot for our society.

We all have a lot that we would like to accomplish in life so we need to make sure we do something to save our World or else...

Take Care Everyone

My Passion

I really don't know what my passion is. I do know that I care a lot for the kids who are left homeless and a very poor. For as long as I could remember I've always wanted to help those kids. I see those commercials on television about helping those kids out, by donating money. I would like to do something like that because I know money (even if it's not a lot) will help out a lot. I feel like it is not the children's fault. I wish there could be a lot more to do. The countries are really poor so it's hard to change the whole society. It will take a long time to change everything.

Another passion I have is to be successful in life. I've always wanted to live in a brownstone. I live in midtown Manhattan so I'm surrounded by them. I think they are beautiful and a wonderful place to live in. I know it will take a lot of hard work to accomplish this goal. I know that I want to be successful in life so that will make me work harder in school. I plan on working hard in my education; getting my bachelors and masters, right after one another. I want to get my masters in counseling psychology. I'm sure I will get very far with that.

With both of these passions I know I will need to work hard in education. When I become successful I know I will get money which hopefully help out those poor kids and getting a brownstone.

How Did I Impact The Environment Today?

Well lets see today I did not do much. I went to work and was there all day basically. I did few things that I know impacted the environment, not in the best way possible...

First of all, my co-workers and I wasted a lot of paper. We could of saved the papers to use as notes for later. Even though most of them were receipts, the back were still blank. At my job we use plain paper to fold the clothes (they go in the middle of the clothes and we just fold over the paper, making it a lot straighter). A lot of paper went to the clothes and once we sold something, for the most part we just throw out the paper. I tried to reuse the blank paper over on other clothes but with some of them I did throw away =-/

Second, I bought tea (twice) and both of those times the store gave me paper cups. Even though one cup was small and the other one was big, there was a lot of waste there. I actually wanted to bring my thermal to work but I ended up rushing myself and completely forgot to prepare it. It would of been a good idea being that my thermal is pretty big.

I will be honest, I hardly do anything for the environment. The only thing that I do is recycle but I know there is a lot more I can do. After reading Al Gore's book, I realized that I should be doing a lot more than what I am doing right now but I am lazy even though I know it does not take much. I can say I'm just making up excuses for myself. Instead of buying coffee or tea, I know I can get into the habit of bringing my thermal. It will be a smart idea because I would do something good for the environment and save money (which we all can use)!

I have two major concerns: 1) The water shortage that we are undergoing. I did not know about this problem and it was shocking to find out. If we run out of water, we will not be able to survive in this world. I don't know about everybody but I know there is a lot of things I still want to do before I stop existing from this world.
2) Global warming is something that's very scary. All those ice glaciers that are melting is something that everyone should be worried about.

I wish everyone would realize what is going on with the world and change. The government should really step in and do something but that seems a lot to be asking for.
